A small directory, on purpose

Bookmark is a book directory built around one idea: short lists beat long ones. Most "best books" roundups are padded to fifty items because length looks like effort. We think effort looks like leaving things out. Our lists run about eight books, they're ranked, and every pick carries the reason it made the cut.

Nothing here is copied from publisher blurbs or scraped from reviews. We research each list, check every title against library records, and write our own notes. If a book is on the shelf, someone decided it belonged there and said why.

You can save any book to your own shelf. It lives in your browser, no signup, no email. Buy links go to Bookshop.org and Amazon and may earn us a small commission, which is what keeps the site running. The details are on the disclosure page.

About this domain

In the early 2000s, twbookmark.com was the online home of a major New York publishing house, hosting author pages for writers like Walter Mosley, Sidney Sheldon, and James Patterson. The publisher changed hands in 2006 and the site went dark.

We are an independent site with no affiliation to any publisher. We just liked the name too much to let it rot, and we've kept guides to some of those same authors alive at their old addresses because people still follow links to them twenty years later.
